RSA Hybrid Homes

BOX OFFICE

RSA 2022 brief challenged us to think about how we might improve the experience for the increasing number of people with hybrid working patterns. I narrowed my focus to working mothers and how to better facilitate a home and work life balance.

‘Women have disproportionately considered leaving the workplace, particularly working mothers, women in senior management positions, and Black women. This may be for any number of reasons, including shouldering more childcare as schools shut, or increased demand for household labour, as homes became offices’ (McKinsey 2020)

Insufficient workspace.

Well-being is ignored.

Multi-tasking work and home.

A look at the process

Adjust & Reset

The foot rest is designed for users comfort. When researching additional features I was drawn to the design of aeroplane seats and how they improve the comfort of passengers. This lead me to look at the health benefits of having an adjustable footrest. These benefits include improved posture, reduced back pain and improved circulation. Foot rests are also useful for those who are under the average height, allowing them to have a comfortable seating position.

Swipe Away The Day

By creating a drawer that slides away from the user, anything on the surface can easily be scooped into the drawer. This is a quick and easy solution for clearing away the day. This will save busy people a lot of time as well as reduce mess and improve everyday organisation.

Stand Up

By creating an adjustable standing desk I am giving the user an opportunity to move from their seated position, improving circulation and well-being. Many people do not have space for standing desks as the ones present in the market space are very large in size.

Box Office Brand

Our minimalistic logo is made up of the letter B and O in the shape of a box. This simple logo will allow the brand to be used in both corporate and leisure markets.
